“Necessity is the mother of all invention,” so the saying goes, but when you add to that sentiment innovation, passion and conviction, you end up with a processing plant designed for Hometown, USA, or in our case, Luling, Texas. In 2019, Clyde Sommerlatte, owner of 2 Bar C Ranch, experienced rapid herd growth of his pasture-raised Black Angus cattle and along with that growth, the necessity of getting the cattle processed in a timely manner. This was a problem since his options, along with other producers’, were quite limited. Producers needed a trustworthy, nearby facility to custom process their animals for their families and customers. After much brainstorming, the logical solution appeared to be building a processing plant to provide services for his herd and other producers’ herds. Clyde partnered with Cole Bolton, owner of K&C Cattle Company, and they began the hard work. After hours of meetings, extensive research, and unexpected challenges, Hometown Meat Market, LLC, a USDA customer processing facility and meat market took shape from the ground up. Not only did Hometown solve the harvest and processing issue for producers, but also created an opportunity to give back to the community by providing steady local jobs and a source for high quality, nutrient-rich beef and other meats unavailable through other local retailers. After construction and Covid delays the doors finally opened to the public in 2022. Since then, Hometown Meat Market has been providing customers with quality, premium beef with 2 Bar C genetics that was bred and fed in Texas, under Hometown Meat Market, K&C Cattle Co., and 2 Bar C Ranch labels. Not only does Hometown Meat Market offer premium beef at excellent prices, but the meat counter is also filled with pork cuts, chicken, jerky and other items that you can’t find at the local grocery store. Whether you want that custom cut Tomahawk Ribeye or heart shaped Ribeye, specialty cuts such as Bavette or the Thors Hammer, we stock an impressive variety of cuts for customers wanting a tried-and-true cut, and those who want to venture out of their comfort zones and try something new. We offer a line of meats, fresh bacon, and a variety of sausage styles all flavored and smoked in-house weekly. We guarantee there will be a cut to love for anyone who loves premium quality meats. We ship meat bundles all across the continental United States and are happy to send a package to your friends and family.
Through months of due diligence and working with other processors at multiple facilities, Hometown was designed to provide the tools that producers have been asking for:
• Cooler space to age animals
• Minimum wait-time for booking animals to harvest
• Boxing of the final product
• Tracking of the animal from harvest to pick-up
• Higher Quality Fabrication
• Vacuum Packaging of the meats
• Customer-Service
• Private Labeling
Hometown also has a retail counter full of the beef and pork cuts that you can’t just get at the local grocery store. Whether you want that custom cut Tomahawk Ribeye, specialty cuts such as Bavette or the Thors Hammer, we have it all. We offer an extensive line of smoked meats, fresh bacon and sausage. We know you'll find something to love. We ship meat across the United States and are happy to send a package to your friends and family.

2 Bar C Ranch cattle herds play a crucial role in our regenerative style of conservation-minded ranching. We care for our herds from the time of conception until consumers purchase our nutrient-rich, well-marbled beef for consumption. Our cattle are pasture-raised with plenty of water and luscious grass, finished on locally sourced grains, and harvested in our own USDA processing plant, Hometown Meat Market. Having a hand in the entire process, including how the animals are raised, harvested, and prepared is crucial. We know the quality of food we’re providing for ourselves, our friends and families, and our neighbors.
Our focus with our registered herd of Black Angus centers around genetics. Our genetics are proven game changers for both registered and commercial herds.
Luling is a city in Caldwell County, Texas, along the San Marcos River with a population of 5,599. While there is some debate as to how Luling got its name, some say it was named for a Chinese railroad worker, but most others will tell you it was named after a New York banker, Charles Luling, whose good friend, Thomas Wentworth Pierce provided financing for the railroad as well as for the purchase of the land that became Luling.
After buying the land, Luling founded the city in 1874 as a railroad town and became a rowdy center for cattle drivers on the Chisholm Trail. Contempt of the law by the cowboys helped Luling become known as the “toughest town in Texas.”
In the late 1800's as the great cattle drives began to dwindle and Luling began to quiet down, it would go through slow transitions that would later turn it into a hub for agriculture, oil and gas. Today, Luling is well known all over the state for its BBQ, cattle, watermelons, and oil, Luling has it all!
We love our customers, so please stop and shop with us during normal business hours! We will be extending our hours of operation beginning in 2025.
